Batto-jutsu - rooted in the Samurai warrior tradition. It is the most disciplined and prestigious of all the martial arts due to the concerted demand on one’s attention.
Batto-do training dramatically sharpens awareness, enhances coordination, and perfects concentration.
Those interested in Batto-do must possess good sense and the most serious attitude toward training. By training with a sword, one can apply its rewards in all aspects of life.
Training in Batto-do includes: Suburi (basics), Kata (form), and Kumite (sparring). During basic training students practice first with a Bokuto (wooden sword), later an Iaito (imitation sword), until a real sword is finally used.
In advanced classes the emphasis is placed on Tameshigiri (test-cutting of straw and bamboo). Rarely is test-cutting with real swords ever performed or taught today, even in Japan.
